you want an indepth journey through spectacular desert landscapes and
fertile oases then this is ideal. From the comfort of a 4x4 vehicle drive
through the magnificent countryside - palm groves, like ranks of soldiers
marching for mile upon mile their regimented lines never wavering a whisper
out of row! Cross sun drenched salt pans, drive through rocky ravines
and cross the soft sands of the desert to your luxurious tented retreat
far from the madding crowd! Optional beach extension to the Safari relaxing
on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
Itinerary
Day 1 To Djerba via Tunis
Depart London on direct Tunis Air or British Airways flight to Tunis
with connecting flight to Djerba. Transfer to the Hotel Miramar Djerba
Palace for overnight stay.
 Day
2 To Matmata via Medenine and Toujane
After breakfast drive by 4x4 to Medenine and visit the 'Ghorfas',
remnants of the towns once substantial Ksour (stronghold). Next visit
Toujane a Berber mountain village. Lunch in Matmata in a spectacular 'cave'
hotel, walk around the Troglodyte village of Star Wars fame and visit
a Berber home. Overnight Hotel Ksar Amasir (Troglydyte).
Day 3 To Ksar Ghilane via Tatouine
After breakfast leave for the fortified village of Ksar Haddada (famed
for its Ksour and terraced village) Drive on deep into the desert to the
luxurious tented camp at the Oasis of Ksar Ghilane. Stay for two night
at the Pansea Ksar Ghilane Camp.

4 Ksar Ghilane
A day for adventure! Take an optional camel ride into the dunes -
the endless sands are vast - they appear uninhabited and forbidding
but in reality numerous animals live in the challenging conditions. Nomads,
though fewer in numbers still follow the age-old traditions. Relax by
the superb swimming pool or spend time in the observation tower watching
the 'world go by'!
day 5 To Tozeur via Douz
Drive via Oum Ech Chia to Douz. En route stop for lunch then visit the
Saharan Oases of Nouil, Zaafrane and Ghidma. Take a camel trek in Zaafrane
thorough the ever changing dunes. Later drive across the bleached expanse
of the Chott El Jerid salt lake to Tozeur, the largest Oasis town in Tunisia
and known for the quality of its dates. Two nights Hotel El Mouradi.
 day
6 Excursion to Chebika, Mides, Tamerza and Nefta
After breakfast visit the old Berber 'ghost' villages of
Chebika, Mides and Tamerza. These ancient villages were abandoned in 1969
unable to withstand the violence of nature when floods swept away the
mud brick homes. Lunch in Tamerza. Finally visit the Oasis of Nefta with
its highly distinctive brickwork.
day 7 To Djerba via Gabes and El Hamma
After breakfast drive to Gabes and see its cluster of Oases then drive
on to Djerba. Stay overnight at the Hotel Miramar Djerba Palace.
 day
8 To London
Fly from Djerba to Tunis for direct connecting flight back to London
on Tunis Air or British Airways.
Or extend your stay with a few days on the golden shores of
the Mediterranean Sea either at the beginning or the end of your tour.
Choose from Djerba, Monastir, Skanes, Mahdia, Sousse, Port El Kantaoui,
Hammamet/Yasmine.
